Mike Ion quotes Oscar Romero in his header: "Aspire not to have more but to be more." He says, in his profile:
I work in education and write the odd piece for the Guardian, Tribune and for the Progress website. I was Labour's PPC for Shrewsbury in 2005
A Telford boy, his favourite book is The Grapes of Wrath and he's interested in public sector housing and Irish history.
Do give his blog a look and see what you think, members.

YES.
Because he thinks then writes about it provocatively.
Not that I agree with him very often.
Can I then Be the BLOGPOWER!!!???
I think his blog is very thought provoking and interesting, I take it from the fact that he’s got that “66 was a great year for English Football, Eric was born” slogan on his blog that he’s a Manchester United fan??? Shame about that, but we are not all perfect!
I don’t have any problems!

Yep, I like Mike's stuff, well written and thought provoking.
It is a YES from me.
Ian
People, don't use the mailing list for this!!! All comments here until [hopefully not] an objection.
I'm moving for fast-tracking tomorrow morning if things are pretty much as is.
Mu tai dong - one of our unusual requests. Members might have a glance.
Yes
Yeah, sure
Another bloody lefty?
YES.
I vote no, but without objection
Yep from me.
Sorry. No. Well, Mr Ion is a good writer but I'm a partisan Tory. Anyone who could stand for Labour at the 2005 election most definitely gets a No! from me.
Mr Ion is a great opponent of selective education BTW.
As I recall, Blogpower let in "Some Random Thoughts" a week back. Now another Labourite teacher is to penetrate our ranks....No!
Tory BlogPowerers - where are you?
James,
Allow more time for a spot of reflection and consideration on this applicant. Tory BPers will not take kindly to this Ion chap.
I asked to join having read a few of the blogs on here, as I fancied a bit of debate, and thought my input may even things out a bit. I guess that if right-wing blogpower members want to talk among themselves then ignore myself and Mike. If you want a bit of well thought out debate, allow him to join. Mike's most recent post is excellent by the way on the differences between Tory and Labour.

If your latest posting is anything to go by I would imagine it might be your membership of Blogpower that is called into question.

Ahh that's helpful Mike, you're not in yet and you attack a member :)
Even though I voted no, I'd say you have a great shot to get in.
Thanks, Nazh.My current post is patently, light-hearted nonsense but your current post is perhaps designed to be taken seriously?
I don't care if he's a Labour supporter.
Mike writes a good blog and is in no way offensive. In fact I linked to one of his posts yesterday. If anything I'm a little worried at my ability to debate with such a great writer.
I'm no fan of his politics, but that has nothing to do with whether he should be let in or not. His blog is good and he will add to the variety in Blogpower. He most definitely should be let in.
My goodness - one can't go away from Blogpower for 24 hours and something happens.
OK people, I've been out of it for 24 hours and Ian's away - we'll close off comments and continue this inside.
The 72 hours will measure from the first objection, 0900, Sunday, London time and finish Wednesday morning.
All comments made here so far will count as votes and the usual rules apply inside.
See you there, people.
