Blogpower gets a real boost this week

I have to say I'm really delighted with what's been going on here at Blogpower. Check out this post by Lord Nazh and when you're done, check out this lady, Ruthie Zaftig.

These aren't our first Americans but their agreement to join us certainly makes Blogpower more viable as a force now. On the Brit front, check out our newest members Guthrum at Looking For a Voice and Crushed By Ingsoc. Hope you don't feel neglected, boys - I suppose you were already part of us in spirit.

Do you see what I'm driving at here? All four of these are class bloggers in their own right and this is a coup for Blogpower, no mistake.

Hi James

Bel suggested I look at Blogpower and consider joining. I looked and would love to join but I cannot see how one joins: whether one asks or is asked.

My blog is at: http://calumcarr.blogspot.com/

Bel made her suggestion in the exchange of comments shown below: The full post (and comments) is available here (http://calumcarr.blogspot.com/2007/04/saturdays-post.html). You will see that I doubted - still do – if my blog is up to the quality of others in Blogpower.

Also, in your BlogFocus (http://nourishingobscurity.blogspot.com/2007_04_01_archive.html) on 14 April you selected from “Bel is Thinking”. One of my posts is paraphrased there.

I’d be interested in your feedback about Bel’s suggestion.

I look forward – with some trepidation - to hearing from you.

Regards

Calum

Hello Calum, please don't give up. I know what it feels like not to have anything to write about on any given day. When that happens, I just don't write. Better to have the day off than to write something if your heart is not in it.

About traffic, you may not realise, but loads of people are possibly reading your blog. I read somewhere that only about 10-25% of readers comment on a blog. So please don't lose heart. You may have lots of silent readers.

Third, have you thought of joining some blog communities, and getting to know (and be known by) other blogs? Have you heard of blogpower? It is an initiative by small bloggers. We encourage each other by visiting and promoting each other's blogs. Of course, the quality of the blog matters, but everyone needs a step or two up the ladder. I joined a few months ago, and apart from the improvement in traffic, it introduced me to many wonderful blogs I may otherwise not have discovered.

Please visit the blogpower blog at defendingtheblog.blogpsot.com and see what you think.

Wishing you all the best. You have a very good blog here. Don't give up.

Hi Bel

Thanks for your kind words. I was really down yesterday re the blog.

I looked at blogpower yesterday having come across ianappleyard who has commented on your blog. Think I've a bit to go before I reach blogpower's standard but who knows with time.....

Again thanks and your blog is on my list of those to visit daily.

Your blog is well within the standards for blogpower, whatever those might be. If you like the idea of blogpower, just join. There is so much that your blog can add to blogpower.

Oh before I forget. If you don't mind, I'd like to add your blog to my link list on my blog. I assume you are a centre left blog, and I will add you to that category. If I have got that wrong, please let me know and I will move you to the appropriate category.

Thanks Bel

I am delighted to be placed in your link list: our left / centre left caegory is appropriate.

I will reciprocrate but give me a few days because my blog isn't yet set up for links. I imagine it's easy to do.

Finally, but most importantly, thank you for your encouragement. How could I give up after your comments? I wasn't looking for my plea to the ether to find anyone: I was simply screaming in frustration at my increasing struggle to write. I am so glad you responded.”

Calum, we're very relaxed about rules and such; I think the accepted way of joining is to put up the Blogpower banner. You can either save the image from this page and upload it to your own, or my colleague the Tin Drummer can send you the appropriate code (ashes42AThotmailDOTcoDOTuk). Then simply drop me a line to let me know you have done so (imaginedcommunityATgooglemailDOTcom), at which point I add you to the blogroll.

On the other hand, if you would prefer to be asked, then we could very much do with more centre/left bloggers, and we are desperately short of Iain Dale fans ;). We'd be very happy if you would agree to join us.

Happy to upload - now done

Email sent to Ian.

Delighted to join.

Thank you Bel. Without your encouragement my blog would probably be closed.

Thanks

Calum

Calum, delighted but you got to us after I went to bed. We'll get onto it - I see Ian already has - and I'll post on you this evening or Ian or the Tin Drummer will. It usually takes us a little while to get everything up and running.

Bel - thanks!
